about

What can be said about Koji Kondo that hasn't already been said a thousand times before? He's a musical genius deserving of his status as a legend in the industry and his works are some of the most recognizable tunes to have come from any video game--not the least of which being his work on Super Mario Bros. 3. An entire generation has had this entire soundtrack forever etched into their memories and I only hope that my tribute to it comes remotely close to doing it justice.

A quick side note--the Airship Theme is a tricky piece of music. I'm not sure if it was the result of the NES hardware, the combination of the timpani samples and the other channels or if the parts were intentionally written in some odd meters but there is a certain tug-of-war in the timing of the piece. It's not incredibly noticeable until one tries to recreate it note-for-note, which is exactly what I did--only it didn't turn out to be a pleasing piece to listen to. So I've included two versions: the "correct" version with unaltered timing and a "fixed" version that's all lined up and in standard 4/4 timing. Hope you enjoy!

Special thanks go to Jeremy De Los Santos for requesting this and to Patreon Supporters, Drew Lagoon, Ethan Hadre and Brian Grovenstein!
